Plein air pen and ink drawings
These ink drawings were made on location in the tropical rainforest of Barro Colorado Island in Panama. Each one is a study in patience and endurance. Sitting in the leaf litter of a tropical forest is a good way to earn chigger and mosquito bites and occasional interactions with other fauna (the drawing, "Understory", began with the shooing off of a coral snake). A complex drawing can take up to three days, often interrupted by the tropical afternoon downpour.

It's well worth the effort, I think. These drawings say a lot about the forest in the most graphic way possible, and my own involvement with every vine and leaf is likewise indelible.
